C noticed my skills as a tutor of science and mathematics, and this part time job is comforting to work with. At times problems can be challenging, but I have solved every problem that has been thrown my way either by myself or with the help of my colleagues.

We demonstrate a team oriented environment, the only down side is that the hourly tutors are not compensated for each of their obtained skill set. Living in Austin is not cheap and something has to ultimately be done to increase the 19 hour work restriction impressed upon the tutoring staff.

I learned the necessary skills to be able to explain my knowledge on Mathematics in a succinct manner to the students in need. Both supervisor and other tutors have outgoing personalities that made me feel welcome and able to enjoy my working time there. The manager was almost never there. It was like I had no boss. Being a tutor and being an SI may sound similar, but they are actually very different jobs. As a tutor, I helped students on an individual base.

Every student is different, not only just their level of Spanish and the degree of needs, but also their personality and their best approach of learning. I had to individualize my tutoring methods in order to best meet my students' needs. As a Supplemental Instructor, I actually had my own class to teach. I did not really teach new material; most times I just designed activities for the students to review what they had learned from class: The difference between being a tutor and a SI was the degree of "direct help" I provided.

As a tutor, I helped students in a direct way; as an SI, I tried to have the good students do the "teaching and helping" to the other students, because as research shows, "Students learn the best from teaching others.
